Mice and rats reproduce rapidly, as is generally the case with small prey animals. Their relatively short life spans, short gestation periods and rapid sexual maturity make effective rodent control critical. The reproductive cycle and number of rodent offspring increases with adequate food, water and harborage. Rodents cause numerous problems such as the spread of serious diseases, including salmonellas (food poisoning), plague, leptospirosis, rickettsial pox and lymphocytic choriomeningitis (LCM). They consume or contaminate about 20 percent of the world’s food supply. Rodents carry fleas, ticks and other ectoparasites, which potentially spread diseases, into buildings. Mice and rats gnaw, causing expensive structural damage, and can also can start fires if they gnaw on electrical wires. Rodents cause a great deal of anxiety for occupants of infested buildings.
The best way to keep buildings rodent free is to prevent rats and mice from getting inside. Rodents fit through tiny openings and can gnaw through wood, lead, aluminum, copper, cinder block and uncured concrete. Mice can gnaw their way through openings as small as 1/4 inch. Rats can gnaw through openings as small as 1/2 inch. Armand Exterminating will take the proper steps to ensure the rodents cannot get inside, as well as rid your home of the rodents inside now. The following measures, with the proper materials, will make buildings less accessible to rodents. Openings in walls larger than 3/8 inch would be patched using gnaw-proof materials. Holes may be plugged with steel wool prior to patching. An aerosol foam spray may then be used to seal the remaining cracks. Rodent traps would be installed in affected areas, and traps inspected on a regular basis.
